Getting around Shanghai
Generally, transportation inside Shanghai city is considered both convenient and satisfactory. As an international metropolis with the largest population in China, Shanghai will inevitably face the problem of overpopulation and traffic congestion. However the situation is currently somewhat better than in Beijing. To relieve the transportation pressure, the government has done a lot of work including constructing a large number of roads, subways, and opening more new bus routes. Now, the city has the world's largest public transportation system handling the largest daily volume of passengers.
- Taxi
Taking taxis in Shanghai is more expensive than in other cities. In the daytime, the price is CNY12 for the first three kilometers (1.9 miles), an additional charge of CNY2.4 for every succeeding kilometer within 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) and CNY3.6for every succeeding kilometer after 10 kilometers.
At night from 23:00 to 05:00 the next morning, the taxi fare is CNY16 for the first three kilometers, an additional charge of CNY3.1 for every succeeding kilometer within 10 kilometers and CNY4.1 for every succeeding kilometer after 10 kilometers
- Bus
Public buses in Shanghai are a particularly convenient means of transport, with some 1,100 bus lines covering the length and breadth of the city. Shanghai Railway Station, People's Square, Xujiahui, Zhongshan Park Wujiaochang, Shanghai Indoor Stadium and Dongchang Road serve as the main bus transfer stations in downtown Shanghai. Xinzhuang, Longyang Road and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park stations provide many routes to Shanghai's suburbs.

The ten tourist bus lines all start at Shanghai Stadium and cover almost all of the famous attractions in the city center, the suburbs and those in neighboring areas. Each tourist line represents an option for a one-day tour.

- Subway
Subway is a speedy, safe, comfortable and convenient means of transportation for traveling around Shanghai. The main attractions, transportation hubs and commercial areas such as the Bund, Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road, People's Square, Shanghai Railway Station and Xujiahui can be reached by several subway lines.
At present, Shanghai has 11 subway lines in operation, totaling approximately 400 kilometers (about 249 miles).

Weather
Shanghai weather is generally mild and moist, with four distinct seasons - a pleasant warm spring, a hot rainy summer, a comfortable cool autumn and an overcast cold winter. The hottest time in Shanghai comes in July and August, with more than 10 days at the temperature above 35 C (95 F). The coldest time is from the late January to early February. The spring from March to May is recommended as the best time to travel Shanghai.
